Weird Al's Indo- Angle

"Weird Al" Yankovic has been lampooning music for over 3 decades, his latest album "Mandatory Fun" has earned the #1 spot on the Billboard Charts for the first time in his career. People have called him a joke, the real joke however is his career out lasting many of those that he's parodied!

What's the Indo-angle of Weird Al? Well, I'm glad you asked. One of his lesser known parodies is "Yoda" sung to the tune of "Lola" by the Kinks. When performing the song live in concert, he interjects a set of sounds known to the faithful as the "Yoda Chant"

The beginning part of this chant is a common rhythmic pattern in Indian classical music called a "Tala" or "Taal" and in this case is the well known, teen-taal, that's played on the drum instrument called "Tabla" (Yes, a lot of T's in there)

Whether Weird Al is aware of these details is not known by me, I hope he is ! For anyone out there that doesn't know- well now you do!

Teental is a 16 beat cycle with the sounds:

dha dhin dhin dha

dha dhin dhin dha

dha tin tin ta

ta dhin dhin dha

THE "YODA CHANT" AND AN EXPLANATION OF TEENTAAL IS HERE (FORWARD TO THE END TO HEAR IT PLAYED)
